In fact, the whole area,
located in northern Mexico City, is suffering from acute economic
problems. Sadly, the story of this family is quite common. Authorities are trying to make structural changes and have begun
improving road conditions. The problem is that by
these very improvements the rural poor are now able to make their
way to the city in hopes of finding new opportunites. Thus, Sant Cruz
and Huicholes are being flooded with more need than ever.
Armando is twelve and is the eldest child of four; two
boys and two girls. Their mother is their only support. She works
preparing food that she takes daily in a basket to sell to stone
masons in neighboring construction sites. She doesn't make enough
money though, as construction work is not stable enough to produce
a reliable income.
